This mix encompasses what I consider to be one of the most fruitful periods in modern popular Armenian music – the late 1960s to the late 1970s. What I find most appealing about this era is the experimentation with electric instruments, as well as strong influences from various other genres of music. Traditional Armenian folk songs were starting to be covered by everything from psychedelic Rock-influenced groups, to 40-piece big band Jazz orchestras. After years of digging for any and every cool-looking Armenian record I could find, I did my best to cover a cross-section of all things funky and soulful that I’ve come across during my journeys. Pari vayeloum! (hope y’all enjoy!)
