After all this time, it's still hard to put into words what Timeless was, is, and will be.

A series of concerts put together by VTech and Mochilla brought our attention to the overlooked maestros of music, Mulatu Astatke, J.Dilla, and Arthur Verocai. These concerts shined a spotlight on their creative compositions allowing a new generation of music lovers to learn and enjoy.

But the journey doesn’t end there. We continue to find new ways to open minds and expand horizons with the music that was showcased on the stage of the Luckman over a year ago, and with the help of J.Rocc of the World Famous Beat Junkies, it’s a whole new experience.

With his Live Timeless Mix, J.Rocc creates a visual and audio experience unlike anything you’ve ever heard or seen.

At the JACCC he took us on a journey. From the first time we heard the music to hear it mixed live on stage… J.Rocc made it all new again, live again… it was Timeless.

A Timeless Evening at JACCC

Over a year ago, the work of three modern composers took stage at the Luckman Auditorium at Cal State Los Angeles in a three part series called "Timeless." Miguel Atwood-Ferguson brought a 60-piece orchestra to perform strikingly beautiful renditions of the work of J Dilla, Arthur Verocai performed his powerful eponymous debut in its entirety, and Mulatu Astatke performed classics and new material from his prolific body of work. Though hip-hop, ethio-jazz, and bossa nova may have stylistic differences, each has had a profound effect on numerous genres today.

Last Friday evening, fans from all across Los Angeles came together under the downtown skyline to celebrate the work of these three composers with a live re-edit of these Timeless performances. Timeless (http://tiny.cc/qrxzt) is a series of three concert films featuring the music of composers/arrangers that have influenced hip-hop in the most profound ways; J DILLA (Suite for Ma Dukes), MULATU ASTATKE, and ARTHUR VEROCAI.

J.ROCC of the World Famous Beat Junkies will be mixing all three films live for this special outdoor screening.

Dublab will also be screening the best videos from their Vision Version film project (http://tiny.cc/0pxil).

Films, music, food trucks, and best DJ’s in Los Angeles all come together in the JACCC Plaza as families, friends and downtown L.A. neighbors join in on the festivities under the Little Tokyo sky.

Timeless is the brainchild of two photographers, a promoter, and the marketing director of VTech. For the Arthur Verocai concert – JRocc and Madlib dug deep into their crates to provide a diverse and often times radical look at Brasilian music from the time that Arthur recorded his solo record. As a backdrop to this B+ and Eric Coleman made this slide show.

The images are from a project in the works by Mochilla. It has as yet no name but it is about the music and culture of the North East of Brasil. There in the city of Recife in the state of Pernambuco at Carnival time in 2008 is where and when these images were made. The North East is at the root of most culture in Brasil. Samba finds it root there in Maracatu. Capoeira is from Bahia which is in the North East. In many ways the root of rapping in the Americas is there too in the coco and embolada â€“ improvised challenge singing in rhyme that has been there since the sixteenth century. This slide show is part of the extra features of the DVD.

Untitled/Fantastic Remixed: Georgia Anne Muldrow featuring Nokware.

Remixing Suite for Ma Dukes is a brave undertaking. Several producers and MCs at first accepted and then declined the job. In the end we think we got the right person. It is with great pleasure on the week of Mothers Day to release this remix. Done while mothering by none other than Georgia Ann Muldrow. This project began as an homage to one mothers love (Ma Dukes) and has now been remixed by another (Georgia) with her son Nokware in her lap. Two incredible women, one amazing track. Remixed.

Georgia who has done production for Erykah Badu, Mos Def and partner Dudley Perkins was an amazing person to watch at work. Her feel is so hers. She seemed so comfortable with the music. She insisted that she didn’t want to chop the song but to play along as if she was there in the Orchestra. We wanted her to sing on the track too but her microphone was in the shop for repairs – so on my suggestion she sang the vocals into the lavalier tie clip mic that we used to capture sound for the video.

This remix and the two others we have released here: Te’Amir and Jneiro will be available on a Timeless Remixed EP this Summer.

Untitled/Fantastic is the emotional hub of Suite for Ma Dukes. When Mochilla/VTech screened the film in Detroit last week somebody shouted out ,"Now that's what I'm talking about..."

HouseShoes has said several times, that he can’t watch Untitled/Fantastic without tearing up. If Suite for Ma Dukes has unlocked the emotional power of Dilla’s music, Untitled/Fantastic is the key. Here it is, our last offering from the three dvd set. To see the rest, you’ll have to purchase them.

The official street date is June 6th, but most retailers should have them before that. If not please spend it with us at MOCHILLA.

For over a decade, Jneiro Jarel (aka Dr. Who Dat?) has provided listeners with an unbelievably eclectic mix of sounds ranging from hiphop, to electro, from Bossa Nova to bass music. With more monikers than Kool Keith, his collaborations and producer credits are almost too many to mention. Highlights include works with Khujo Goodie (as Willie Isz), MF Doom, TV on the Radio his own projects for Kindred Spirits and many more.
