Everyone thought we were just buying records in Colombia but we did our thing. Much love to Quantic on making an amazing record and for having the vision to get us down here to this amazing country. There is lots more to come -brace yoself.
Trailer from the forthcoming Mochilla/Sonido del Valle production.
Shot in Cali and Buenaventura in Colombia.
Based around the music of Quantic and his Combo Barbaro from their forthcoming Tradition in Transition album on Tru Thoughts Records featuring the talents of Will Quantic, Alfredito Linares, Nidia Gongora, Freddy Colorado, Arthur Verocai, Joao Comanche Gomes and Malcolm Catto.
The Timeless Series is about celebrating music. Great music, big music. Arthur Verocai’s Self Titled album from 1972 is that. When Nuts told me that carlos dafe had sung on the original album and that we might be able to get him – I was totally sold. When Carlos Nino expressed that we might be able to get Justo Almario I was equally excited.
What happened that night as captured in the attached video is musical history. One of the leaders of the Black Rio movement – Dafe gets to trade his beautiful vocal stylings with Almario an Afro-Columbian who had come to the US and ended up playing with Mongo Santamaria, Roy Ayres (yes the Roy Ayres orchestra that toured Nigeria with Fela) and Mulatu. Yes Mulatu.
Across bars, across continents, across a stage on Cal State campus histories were rejoined and hearts beat faster to joyous music. Pela Sombras a song against the US backed dictatorship in Brasil from 1964 to 1985…. thank you Arthur.

Arthur Verocai performs the song SERIADO at the Luckman Theater in Los Angeles at the TIMELESS series on March 15, 2009. Presented by V-TECH, MOCHILLA, and ArtDontSleep.
We are very proud of this and we think you should watch it….
